Knock, knock! The TransCentury Update is just around the corner again. You may have already noticed, because every time at this time of year, posters for this Leipzig festival institution flash up all over the city. You can say that you've gotten used to it. To this very well and excitingly curated event around the UT Connewitz. We present you the top 5 of our musical highlights this year – and are giving away 1 x 2 festival passes.

Baby’s Berserk (Elektro-No-Wave/NL)

I actually saw a song by this band on the streaming provider some time ago and I promptly marked the title as a “favorite”. Why? Because the piece “Accessories” with its LoFi beats, the light early 90s aesthetic and the sweet vocals is a hit that you will love after the first listen. But: The band's sound stands for so much more. Post-punk, electroclash, no wave. You name it! A seamless blend of fashion and music? Ok, you should check this out. And: Baby's Berserk are releasing a new record this fall, from which you'll definitely hear one or two pieces live. Where and when?

Fri, November 15th 1.10 a.m. – 2 a.m. @ Plant 2

Afar (Krautwave/DE)

Hypnotic, minimalist, herbal, electronic and wavy. This is what Afar from Berlin sound like. The music on Afar's new record is a little dark, but also just as uplifting and warmly enveloping. The titles live from synths, guitar, drum machine and the vocal interplay between the two members. Subjectively perceived references from The Knife also sound. In between it can also be a bit of electronic slacker pop or a guitar-based pop piece.

Strongly recommended on

There, 14.11. 21.50 – 22.45 @ UT Connewitz

Afar Odea (Avantpop/DE)

A guaranteed new discovery is the artist Afar Odea from Leipzig. His recently released debut album is simply amazing. Pretty opulent pop gestures right from the first track. Acoustic guitar, brass, drums, vocoder, synth, samples, piano – the whole wide spectrum. The voice crystal clear and beautiful above. This music should get out of the niche and into the world. Wow!

How does that sound live? You should watch and listen to it

Sun, November 17th 6-7 p.m. @ Chamber Games

Discovery Zone (Synthpop/US)

The hit pieces by the American artist Discovery Zone work on many levels. They are as catchy as they are playful. Very referential and poppy. A lot of synths and a lot of 80s vibes. A bit of Kraftwerk, a bit of Dntel. The performance is complemented live by 3D visuals. This is sure to be sensationally beautiful

There, 14.11. 19.30-20.10 @ UT Connewitz

King Hannah (Noisepop/GB)

And finally, some very straight and blunt guitar noise pop from King Hannah? It's not quite that simple after all. “New York, let's do nothing” is the smash hit from the new album and the live session on YouTube makes you want to see King Hannah live. Musically and vocally, the piece is strongly reminiscent of heroines like PJ Harvey and Kim Gordon.

However, it turns out that the album has a lot more to offer. Quiet ballads à la Cat Power and pieces with a lot of slacker pop attitude. Sounds like a lot of fun

Friday, 15.11. 21.20-22.10 @ UT Connewitz
