The long-awaited reboot of Resident Evilfrom the director of Weapons y Barbarian, Zach Creggerand Sony Pictures revealed the long-awaited official trailer teaseroriginally screened at CinemaCon in recent days, and finally made public.

The trailer features Austin Abrams (Weapons) as a medical courier named Bryan, who navigates a zombie-infested Raccoon City with intense action and terror. The film shows some of the strangest and most monstrous creatures that will appear in Cregger's film, which seem to go far beyond the typical zombie of Resident Evil.

The acclaimed horror director's vision for the Capcom franchise is quite different from the previous seven live-action films and the short-lived Netflix series, Sony Pictures' first look reveals.

Since this project was announced, Cregger has been firm in his decision not to directly adapt the stories of the video games of Resident Evilstating that his film is an original story that “takes place in the world of the games”.

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS:

“From the mind of visionary filmmaker Zach Cregger (Weapons, Barbarian) comes an exciting—and terrifying— franchise reinvention Resident Evil.”

“In a completely new story, Resident Evil follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who unknowingly becomes embroiled in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival when a fateful and frightening night descends into chaos around him.”

In addition to Abrams, the cast includes Paul Walter Hauser (The Fantastic Four: First Steps), Zach Cherry (Severance), Kali Reis (True Detective: Night Country), y Johnno Wilson (I Love That for You).

Cherry plays a scientist in a hospital, while Reis is an ex-military character.

Cregger directs the script he co-wrote with Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 3, John Wick: Chapter 4, Ballerina), based on an original story by Cregger.

When asked about his film Resident EvilCregger said:

“Es an original script. It's a strange story. I wrote it and I love it. It has nothing to do with any of the other 'Resident Evil' movies.. If I do my job, it will feel fresh and bold and strange.”

“It is a completely original story; it takes place in the world of Resident Evil”.

Based on the Capcom video games, the film franchise Resident Evil was released with the 2002 Sony original film, starring Milla Jovovich. The combined box office of the six films that make up the film saga has exceeded $1.2 billion dollars worldwide. In 2021, the reboot was released Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon Citywith direct premiere on Netflix.

Constantin Film produces and co-finances the film.

Producers are Robert Kulzer of Constantin Film, Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment, and Asad Qizilbash and Cater Swan of PlayStation Productions. The executive producers are Oliver Berben and Victor Hadida.

Sony Pictures has planned the premiere of Resident Evil for him September 18, 2026 in theaters and in IMAX.
