20 years later, it's time to delve back into the world of Runway and revisit our favorite characters from the classic The devil wears fashionwith the sequel – now in theaters – The Devil Wears Prada 2with the returns of the original quartet, Meryl Streep like the feared editor Miranda Priestly, Anne Hathaway like Andy Sachs, Emily Blunt like Emily Charlton, and Stanley Tucci as Nigel Kipling.
The original film was a critical and box office success, garnering two Oscar nominations, including Best Actress for Streep, who, with 21 nominations, is the actress or actor with the most Academy Award nominations in history, and The iconic actress was the key piece for the filmmakers and the studio, 20th Century Studios, to launch The Devil Wears Prada 2. And not only that, Streep is credited with having assured, in the negotiating room, an equitable payment between her and her co-stars, Hathaway and Bluntto whom the studio would offer a lower salary than Streep.
In a recent Variety report, it is explained that 20th Century Studios presented Streep with an offer “in accordance with the track record and market value” of the iconic actress, valued at more than $15 million dollars.
The actress's response to the offer was to make an elegant gesture and invite her co-stars, Hathaway and Blunt – who would receive less – to the negotiation. The three actresses then negotiated a “most favored nation” agreement, so that all three would receive the same amount. The final salary was $12.5 million dollars for each.
How classy Mrs. Streep.
Things don't end there.
In addition to your starting salary, Streep also secured a significant box office bonus for herself, Hathaway and Blunt, tied to the film's success in theaters, which could raise all of their salaries to $20 million. The Devil Wears Prada 2 surpassed key milestones in the global box office since its theatrical release on May 1, with a launch of more than $230 million at the global box office, and the run in theaters is just beginning.
