Paramount Pictures made headlines with an announcement over the weekend: Anne Hathaway will be the co-star of Days of Thunder 2joining the return of Tom Cruise reprising his role as Cole Trickle.
Hathaway will play the role of a racing team owner and engineer.
The studio revealed the news through a video published by Cruise where he was seen with Hathaway. Both stars also confirmed that the sequel will be released in theaters on June 2, 2028.
The film is planned for IMAX and will be released only in theaters equipped with Dolby Cinema and 4DX.

The sequel will be directed by Jonathan Levine (50/50, Long Shot, Mr. Irrelevant), who reached an agreement with the studio in recent weeks. The script was written by Will Staples (Without Remorse). For now, the details of the new story are being kept secret.
Cruise will be one of the producers along with Jerry Bruckheimer, one of the producers of the original 1990 installment, and Tommy Harper.
In Days of Thunder (1990), Cruise played Cole Trickle, a talented NASCAR driver who lives life at full speed, crashing cars, finding love and winning the Daytona 500. The all-star cast included Robert Duvall and Nicole Kidman, as well as Cary Elwes and Randy Quaid. The film marked a new collaboration between Cruise and Tony Scott, director of Top Gunand although the sports drama did not reach the same level of popularity as the latter, it continues to be remembered as one of the strongest installments in Cruise's filmography.
Kidman will not return for the sequel.
Hathaway is having a successful 2026. This year alone she stars in five film projects. In April he released the psychosexual thriller, Mother Mary by David Lowery and A24; in May the sequel The Devil Wears Prada 2; right now we see it in the epic The Odyssey Christopher Nolan and the science fiction mystery The End of Oak Street by David Robert Mitchell; and finally, it will be the turn of the thriller Verity October 2.
Apparently, the production of Days of thunder 2 plans to start in early 2027. The devil works hard, but Anne Hathaway works harder.
