'Michael' surpasses 'Oppenheimer': it is crowned the highest-grossing biopic of all time

The definitive king of the box office.

At the end of its tenth weekend! in theaters (June 26-28), Michael (2026), reached $977.4 million at the global box office to achieve a great record: the highest grossing biographical film of all time.

Michael beat the Oscar winner, Oppenheimer ($975 mdd) by Christopher Nolan, the previous holder of said record.

In previous days, Michael surpassed Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) as the highest-grossing musical biopic of all time ($911 million), and remains on track to be crowned the first biopic in film history to gross $1 billion at the global box office.

The biopic of Michael Jackson is distributed by Lionsgate at the domestic box office, and by Universal Pictures in most international markets.

Michael has been able to impose itself on a clear division of opinions between professional critics and the audience. Specialists accuse her of wanting to portray a clean image of the superstar, by not addressing the various accusations that Jackson faced throughout his life.
