April 24, 2026 brings five very different films to the theater: The sound of fallinga fragmentary and mysterious work; After Kima drama of mourning and family reconstruction; Laughter and the razora long and educational trip through Guinea-Bissau; Zone 3a police dystopia with AI and social criticism; and Night shiftquickly contagion terror and catastrophe tone.

The sound of falling (Marscha Schilinski, 2025)

It was difficult for me to get into the film and I was confused about the director's intentions, but I was fascinated by the intertwined and fragmentary stories, with a certain mysterious aura, told by girls and young women from different eras. The common substrate of this kind of ghost story is the pain and the threat of death that these girls discover as they grow up and reality is revealed to them in numerous details, as an intelligent camera that traces glances makes us see. I think it is an imperfect film, but full of suggestions.

After Kim (Ángeles González-Sinde, 2026)

After Kim (Ángeles González-Sinde, 2026)

The filmmaker and former minister adapts her own novel about a mature, divorced couple who travel from Argentina to Spain when they learn that their daughter has turned up dead. Juan and Gloria begin a new life and face unexpected challenges, with the result that a new stage opens in their own relationship. The two great actors maintain just enough attention in a weak film, with limited dramatic force, despite the interest of the story and the characters.

Laughter and the razor (Pedro Pinho, 2025)

Laughter and the razor (Pedro Pinho, 2025)

The viewer has to sit in the seat with enthusiasm, since there are three and a half hours of film. Although it seemed a little long to me, it is not a long story, since that development is needed to tell the journey of a Portuguese, NGO worker, to the former colony of Guinea-Bissau. A very educational trip for us, as it reviews the living conditions of the Guineans, the contradiction of a road that favors development but leaves them without land, emotional-sexual and family relationships, rivalries between villages and, above all, what Europe does or fails to do in Africa. A more than interesting reflection for any citizen, particularly if they are sensitive about the subject.

Zone 3 (Cédric Jiménez, 2025)

Zona 3 (Cédric Jiménez, 2025)

The original title changes to this other one that refers to the classism of the territory of a dystopian Paris, where citizens have to wear a bracelet that controls their every movement and society as a whole is controlled by Alma, an AI police program. There are people who resist this authoritarian society and survive on the margins. In their roles as good cops who investigate a crime and unmask Alma, Gilles Lellouche and Adèle Exarchopoulos center the story, although at times she seems to be lost. The script leaves the criticism of that society in the background and opts for action and intrigue, not always with coherence: discreet entertainment.

Night shift (Jonny Campbell, 2026)

Night Shift (Jonny Campbell, 2026)

After Nicolas Cage, the most mortgaged actor is Liam Neeson who, in addition, in this case has sought a role for his ex-mother-in-law, the former lady of the British scene Vanessa Redgrave. The story of an alien fungus with very fast contagion is outrageous and uses tropes from disaster movies and gore: yes, there is enough rhythm and adrenaline to entertain teenagers and people saturated with TV shows. The rest of the mortals should abstain.
