Sony Pictures shared the first teaser trailer of The Social Reckoningthe non-direct sequel to the acclaimed biopic The Social Networkcon Aaron Sorkinscreenwriter of the first installment, taking charge of the script and direction.
For the script, Sorkin was inspired by a series of articles that Jeff Horwitz wrote for The Wall Street Journal, known as The Facebook Files.
About this new chapter, titled The power of the network in our region, Sorkin explained in April at CinemaCon 2026, that It is a story of David against Goliath:
“A while ago, we told the story of a college student who created a website in his dorm room and connected the world. Well, as you may have noticed, some things have changed since that dream became a global corporation. There is no life that Facebook's algorithm has not touched, and that influence has transformed everything. It's time to say more. It's a true David vs. Goliath story.”
The film stars Mikey Madison (Anora), Jeremy Strong (Succession), Jeremy Allen White (The Bear), Bill Burr (The King of Staten Island), y Wunmi Mosaku (Sinners).
Madison will play Frances Haugen, the data engineer turned whistleblower who went to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Wall Street Journal with her information; White as former WSJ tech reporter Jeff Horowitz, who leads the leak of Facebook files; and Strong as Mark Zuckerberg, in a more adult version of the Meta CEO we met in the 2010 film.
In the teaser, we see Madison tell White, “I'm here to help Facebook, not hurt it, okay?” Later we get our first look at Strong as Zuckerberg, who asserts, “People understand that when I say no, that's where the debate ends.”

Described as a companion piece to The Social NetworkSorkin's script tells the true story of how Frances Haugen (Madison), a young Facebook engineer, enlists the help of Jeff Horwitz (White)a Wall Street Journal reporter, to embark on a dangerous journey that ends up revealing the social network's best-kept secrets.
The acclaimed 2010 film focused on the creation of Facebook, now known as Meta.
As we can see, the sequel instead explores the story behind The Wall Street Journal's The Facebook Filesan explosive series of articles published in October 2021 that They exposed the inner workings of the largest social network in the world and multiple damage that this cause. The series of damaging WSJ articles revealed the grisly details of Facebook's inner workings.
Sorkin's script focuses on The company's own reports about Facebook's negative approaches to teens, tweens, violence, and countries outside the United States. As well as the disinformation that proliferates and causes violence, and how it contributed to the attempted coup on January 6, 2021.
The sequel is produced by Sorkin, Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Stuart Besser.

The 2010 drama, written by Sorkin and directed by David Fincher, inspired by the book by Ben Mezrich, The Accidental Billionairestells us the story of the creation and consolidation of Facebook. During the climax we witness how Mark Zuckerberg He has taken it upon himself to distance himself from his entire environment to achieve success, but real life has continued for more than a decade and there would be a lot of material to explore and address in this present.
The Social Network is one of the highest-rated films in Fincher and Sorkin's filmography; was winner of three Oscarsincluding Best Adapted Screenplay for Sorkin. At the global box office it grossed more than $226 million dollars. It was distributed by Sony Pictures.
And although Sorkin had previously stated that he would not script a sequel for anyone other than Fincher, in the sixteen years since the release of La red socialSorkin has gained experience behind the scenes, as a director of projects such as Molly’s Game (2017), The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020), y Being the Ricardos (2021).
Sony Pictures is planning the theatrical release of The Social Reckoning to October 9, 2026.
